06/26/07: 10 days to Live EarthI'm THE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER. Over the past several weeks, we've looked closely at a lot of the superstars playing the various Live Earth concerts...and we've supplied info about some of the international bands that you may not yet know about. One band that can fit into both of those catagories is a band from Japan called YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA. Many around the world may not be that familiar with YMO...but they are legends in Japan. Here's more on them from the official press release...
"Some groups do it for money, some groups do it when solo careers don’t pan out, and some do it because they can finally sit in the same room again. Other groups do it for a great cause. In this case original Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) members Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi, and Ryuichi Sakamoto have re-formed to help the Live Earth cause with a special performance from Kyoto, Japan on 7.7.07. Live Earth Founder and Producer Kevin Wall joined with Tatsu Kitagawa, the principal of the Live Earth Japan office, at a press conference to announce the special Yellow Magic Orchestra reunion and complete artist lineup and ticketing information for Live Earth Japan. Wall announced that Japan is the only country hosting two events as part of the 24-hour, 7-continent Live Earth concert series to combat global warming. Makuhari Messe in Tokyo will host a daylong Live Earth Tokyo concert. A special broadcast event will be held at the To-ji Buddhist Temple in Kyoto later in the day."
Make sure you take advantage of this terrific global event by expanding your horizons and learning more about some of the bands you know less about. There's gonna be some great performances at Live Earth. I'd hate for you to miss anything.

This is from their website...
"Another one of those well kept Metallica "secrets" that you guys have been chatting about for weeks now is indeed confirmed. We are honored to be playing at the Live Earth concert in London at Wembley Stadium on July 7th along with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, Foo Fighters, Snow Patrol, Madonna, Genesis and many others. This won't be the full-on Metalli-show, but the performance will be available shortly after to download for a minimal fee on iTunes and on our live download site, www.livemetallica.com, home of live recordings from recent tours. All proceeds from the sale of downloads will benefit four climate charities that we have selected, and a number of web, TV, and radio outlets are broadcasting the shows so you can check it out wherever you are."
WorldSpace Satellite Radio is one of the radio outlets mentioned above. We will be broadcasting Live Earth performances all day long on 7.7.07. More details are coming very soon about our broadcast schedule, so keep checking back.

TODAY'S WORLDSPACE DAILY GREEN (a quick tip to live an Earth-friendly life) Live Earth "DAILY GREEN MEASSAGE 16" 06/21/07: 15 days to Live EarthHey, hey! It's THE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER here and I'm back with more of Worldspace's LIVE EARTH 2007 COUNTDOWN. Recently, we've talked a lot about acts like The Police, Genesis, and The Smashing Pumpkins. But what about other big names from overseas? Just yesterday, it was announced that China will stage it's own Live Earth concert. The Shanghai shows will be held on the steps of the Oriental Pearl Tower on July 7th 2007. The lineup for the Shanghai Live Earth concert is: Anthony Wong, Eason Chan, Evonne Hsu, Huang Xiao Ming, Joey Yung, Sarah Brightman, Soler, Winnie Shin, 12 Girls Band. This is a good time for me to introduce some of the interns here at WORLDSPACE SATELLITE RADIO that will be part of the WorldSpace Online Team assembled to cover Live Earth. i asked them to tell us more about a few of the artists that will be performing in the Far East. Here's what Regina found...
"Hey there! So, as I was browsing through the quite diverse blend of musical acts in the up and coming Live Earth concert, I gave a look through to see what was going on in China. Sure, everyone is greatly anticipating the dulcet tones of the esteemed Broadway star Sarah Brightman, but who knew the other great talent that lies before us! The 12 Girls Band, for one, is an act not to be missed. These girls were chosen from over 4000 different hopefuls, and sure have the skills to show for it. Whether it be through the Chinese violin (the erhu) or the xiao, they have a repertoire of both modern and traditional Chinese music and are quite in sync… (no musical pun intended ;)). After reading all this I’m sure you’re all as riled up for their Live Earth performance as I am, but till then, check out The 12 Girls Band Myspace Page and let you get a little taste of what these girls, a striking 12 might I add, are all about. Check it out and let me know what you think…I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised." —Regina Phalange J Now meet "X". He'll tell us more about the China concert...
"Big news on the Live Earth front today! Hot on the heels of the announcement that Metallica would be playing the UK concert in London, a whole other concert has been revealed! Shanghai will now play host to a Live Earth gig in China. It features various Chinese and Taiwanese pop idols, such as Eason Chan, Evonne Hsu, and Winnie Shin. While I, personally, am not familiar with some of these artists, I think you owe it to yourself to check them out. Chan's stuff is pretty damn catchy (ie. "King Kong". Seriously, look it up on YouTube). Also, actors-come-singers like Huang Xiao Ming and Anthony Wong are perfoming. Anthony Wong you may recognize from films like "Hard Boiled", in which he plays a badass bad guy, and "Internal Affairs", where he's a badass good guy. Using a delicate process of deduction, I have concluded that he must also be a badass singer. Anyway, I'm excited to hear some music from the far side of the world." ~ Xander Crews / Billionaire Intern Thanks to Regina and "X"...we'll here more from them in the weeks to come. Untill next time...
06/20/07: 16 days to Live EarthTHE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER returns with today's LIVE EARTH 2007 COUNTDOWN. This week we've been looking closely at some of the superstar reunions taking place at Live Earth. We discussed The Police and The Smashing Pumpkins. Today I've asked Eric Phillips...DJ on ORBIT ROCK 176 on WORLDSPACE SATELLITE RADIO...to give us his thoughts on the Genesis reunion...
"’I get the feeling you're trying to tell me; Is there something I should know? What excuses are you trying to sell me? Should I be reading stop or go? I don't know...’ You could write those same lines about the global warming problem in 2007. There are signals everywhere...trying to tell us something's wrong...but most of what we've heard in response has been excuses people are trying to sell us about their failure to act and react...or...no reply at all. Actually...those first few lines come from the Genesis song, "No Reply at All." But you knew that already! The newly-reunited trio of Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford will be part of the performance line-up for the Live Earth Concerts on July 7. Reacting to a global crisis isn't a new trick for Genesis. Back in 1985, the band performed at both Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia on the same day for the Live AID concerts. The boys used the Concorde to get back and forth in time to make both shows! This year, Genesis will stick to just one location, joining fellow Orbit Rock artists Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters in London. Although...they WILL play TWO shows that day...performing at Old Trafford Football Stadium in Manchester before arriving in London. Genesis will have played the first 19 dates of their "Turn it On" again world tour by the time they hit the Live Earth stage in London. Fans can get more information on the new Genesis web site at www.genesis-music.com.” -Eric Phillips / Orbit Rock Thanks Eric...you are the man. That's it for today. Check us out again tomorrow. Later, 06/19/07: 17 days to Live EarthI am THE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER...this is the WorldSpace LIVE EARTH 2007 COUNTDOWN. Today our guest blogger is Rich Rudel. Rich is the Program Director on BOB 177. He can also be heard as a DJ on ORBIT ROCK 176. Rich is a rock guy! He grew up with it...is excited by it. He's really fired up about the Smashing Pumpkins reunion...and since he's going to be at the New York Live Earth concert as part of the WorldSpace coverage team...he's particularly fired up about their performance at Live Earth...
“When I first heard the Smashing Pumpkins would be getting back together, I was skeptical about how it would work and what would happen. In my heart I wanted this band to come back and sound strong and light a fire under rock music much like they did back in the early 90's when I fell in love with their music in the first place . After hearing the new single, Tarantula, I know they are back and they are creating great music. I cannot wait to see for myself and for the world to hear them live at Live Earth.” - Rich Rudel / BOB & ORBIT ROCK The Countdown continues again tomorrow. Later, 06/18/07: 18 days to Live EarthOnce again it's the THE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER, doing our daily LIVE EARTH 2007 COUNTDOWN. Yesterday we talked about one of the more talked-about aspects of the Live Earth event...that being the Police reunion. Another aspect that is getting a lot of chat is the fact the Urban music is so well represented at Live Earth. Here to tell us more is guest blogger Nikki Strong from Global Hip Hop channel FLAVA 204 on WORLDSPACE SATELLITE RADIO...
“Ok one of the things that has folk boosted about Live Earth is that this event has more Urban/Hip Hop acts in it's line-up than previous similar live 8/aid "we are the world" concerts. Could it mean that Hip Hop has grown in its popularity than in previous years. Maybe. Maybe not. It's exciting nonetheless. Rihanna's in Japan. Snoop's in Germany. The Beastie Boys, Black Eyed Peas,John Legend and Corrine Bailey Rae r doing thier thing in London while Akon, Alicia Keys, Ludacris and Kanye hold it down stateside. I can't resist asking some questions: Will Akon perform his "sorry" song or cause another commotion he could be sorry for? LOL. What controversial heartfelt comment will Kanye boldy blurt out and is Jay-Z or Beyonce going to suprise us on stage somewhere? Maybe a Jayonce-Rihanna Remix of Umbrella? Probably not but we can always keep hope and gossip alive can't we? I also wonder if South Africa's Zola will get some on-air love like other artists from other countries? I hope so cause homie can put it down and folk need to recognize!. ....When I think about the environment though (the real reason for live earth), I can't help but think how poor communities usually get the brunt of environmental waste and its detrimental effects - even when it comes to reconstruction after a terrible natural disaster. WIll any artist bring this issue to light -- Hip Hop or otherwise? I wonder.....” - Nikki Strong / FLAVA 204 Don't forget to sign the guest book and let us know what's up. I'll be back tomorrow.

(a quick tip to live an Earth-friendly life) Live Earth "DAILY GREEN MEASSAGE 12" 06/17/07: 19 days to Live EarthTHE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER here with your LIVE EARTH 2007 COUNTDOWN. Today I asked my friend Dave Zyck to be our guest blogger. Dave is the Program Director of ORBIT ROCK 176 on WORLDSPACE SATELLITE RADIO. He also hosts a rock and roll radio show heard around the world. I thought he'd be perfect to give us a little insight into one of the most talked about aspects of Live Earth 2007...The Police Reuinion...
"Like so many people my age, 30-40ish (that’s as specific as I get,) the Police will be one of the highlights of Live Earth. The reunited band will hit the stage in Jersey, July 7th…gotta warn Sting that Stacy Lyn from Orbit Rock & Radio Voyager wants to have tantric sex with him…hhmmm, who do I want to have tantric sex with…aahhh, I digress! Anyway, the Police have a busy summer…the reunion tour, an MTV Unplugged episode to be taped in Miami in July, and check out the latest issue of Rolling Stone Magazine, the boys are on the cover. Ofcourse there’s the rumors that the guys still don’t really get along even after all these years. That doesn’t matter. The Police are true pros. You know they’ll rock Live Earth. I’ll try to check in with you later with all the latest Police news…peace!" -Dave Zyck / Orbit Rock Thanks Dave. That's it for today.

(a quick tip to live an Earth-friendly life) Live Earth "DAILY GREEN MEASSAGE 11" 06/16/07: 20 days to Live EarthHi all...once again it's the THE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER. Today we'll look at little closer at the UK Concert for Live Earth. Our guest blosser toady is Zach Overking. Zach is the Assistant Program Director of UPOP 29 on WORLDSPACE SATELLITE RADIO. He is also a DJ and host of the very popular show "NEW MUSIC FRIDAY". Zach is a long-time Brit Pop fan and is here today to dig deeeper into what we can expect to see in London on 7/7/07...
"So, although I'm already starting to have my doubts as to whether this whole Live Earth thing can actually change people's ways, I can get around that cognitive dissonance by seeing some of my favorite bands and songwriters in the same place at the same time; Live Earth, London. Call it a win-win situation. Not your average snooze-a-polooza...really great bands are going to be there, some of which rarely come state-side to visit. Take Paolo Nutini. He's had like 3 Top 30 singles in the UK, but you'd have no idea that he's a kid if you heard his music. He has the voice of a back-alley blues singer, but was born in Italy. Then There's Bloc Party, who were somehow able to summon the ghosts of Gang Of Four and Joy Division, and make it sound completely modern. Look for a jaw-droppingly good live-set featuring tracks from their new album: A Weekend In The City. Finally, Razorlight. These guys have been around since '02, but have been hard to export. Which is strange, considering their music is about as palatable as flan. Hello? They opened up for Oasis for an entire tour, and crossed paths with Steve Lillywhite (see U2, Peter Gabriel, and Morrissey). Live Earth London, Come for the Beastie's and Madonna, but stay for the smaller acts. " - Zach Overking / UPOP 29 Just 3 more weeks until the Live Earth concerts and WorldSpace will continue to count our wat down to this great event. Next we'll get some outside insight into one of the most anticipated aspects of the Live Earth concerts...The Police reunionion. That's coming tomorrow. Until then, tell your friends about us and don't forget to sign in the guest book.

(a quick tip to live an Earth-friendly life) Live Earth "DAILY GREEN MEASSAGE 10" 06/15/07: 21 days to Live EarthIt's the THE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER...and I was gonna write about the line-up at the UK Concert For Live Earth. I'll do that tomorrow. Instead I want to look into a press release I just received. The Live Earth organizers have long promised to stage concerts on all 7 continents on 7.7.07. Well, it looks like their gonna pull it of...kinda. Today they announced plans for a "concert" in Antarctica. This is from the Live Earth Official Blog... "…Five (members) of the crew manning the Rothera Research Station on Antarctica have a band. Their first performance that anyone outside of the station will hear? Since it's near impossible to get anyone on or off the continent during the winter, this band is the natural (and only) choice for Live Earth Antarctica. Called Nunatak, the Greenlandic word for "exposed summit within a glacial field", the indie folk-rock band includes Matt Balmer (electronics engineer), Ali Massey (marine biologist), Rob Webster (meteorologist), Tris Thorne (communications engineer), and Roger Stilwell (polar guide). On the big day they'll play in front of their seventeen colleagues at the station and - by live feed - the whole world. "I can’t believe we’ve been invited to do this — it’s a fantastic opportunity to encourage people of the world to deal with climate change," 22-year-old lead singer Matt Balmer said. "We expected to spend our Antarctic winter here at Rothera quietly getting on with our work and maybe performing at the occasional Saturday night party. We could never have imagined taking part in a global concert." Nunatak intends to raise the already considerably high stakes even higher by performing outdoors in the dead of Antarctic winter. I guess if they freeze up they have an excuse besides stage fright!" - OFFICIAL LIVE EARTH BLOG Tomorrow we will look at the UK concert. Until then...BE GREEN. Later,
TODAY'S WORLDSPACE DAILY GREEN (a quick tip to live an Earth-friendly life) Live Earth "DAILY GREEN MEASSAGE 09" 06/14/07: 22 days to Live EarthHey...it's the THE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER with your LIVE EARTH 2007 COUNTDOWN. Let's take a closer look at the US Concert for Live earth. Stacy Lyn is a DJ for RADIO VOYAGER 11 on the WorldSpace Satellite Radio Network. Stacy will be part of the team broadcasting live from New Jersey. She'll be spending all day back stage interview the stars and reporting the rumors. I asked Stacy to be our guest blogger today... “So, I am totally geared up to attend LIVE EARTH on July 7th. Radio Voyager artists are representing BIG TIME for this huge music event that is happening around the world. The U.S. show in Jersey looks like a Voyager playlist! Of course, you know Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Bon Jovi, and Melissa Etheridge are going to rock....but how about the reunited bands? I, for one, cannot wait to hear The Police (in my little dream world, I am having steamy, tantric sex with Sting!) and the Smashing Pumpkins (tantric sex with Billy Corgan...not so much)! And, new artist KT Tunstall made her mark in a big way in the last year (with 3 awesome singles!), so I see no reason why she can't hang with the heavys, right? Can't wait to bring you all the action on the 7th!” - Stacy Lyn / Radio Voyager 11
Next time we'll take a look at the UK show. In the meantime...LIVE GREEN...and pass the word.
Later, TODAY'S WORLDSPACE DAILY GREEN (a quick tip to live an Earth-friendly life) Live Earth "DAILY GREEN MEASSAGE 08" 06/13/07: 23 days to Live EarthHello everyone...once again it's the THE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER with your LIVE EARTH 2007 COUNTDOWN. Today I thought we'd ask Ted Kelly to be our guest blogger. Ted is the Program Director of UPOP 29 on WORLDSPACE SATELLITE RADIO. Ted also hosts the TED KELLY WORLD PARTY, which he often likes to say is the "longest running breakfast show on satellite radio. Ted is an expert on world pop music. Since UPOP hosts a weekly J-POP show, so I asked him to tell us a little about what we can expect at the Japan Live Earth Concert.
"UPop 29 is known worldwide as the first satellite radio cahnnel on earth to bring J-Pop and Asian Pop artist to a global audience via satellite, on-line (AOL Premium Channel) and through DirecTV (in North America) including US and Canada. UPop has secured interviews with a number of artists performing at the two Japan stages. Japan is a hgihlight for Live Earth, being the only country with two main stages. The main stage will be outside of Tokyo city in a suburb, with a concert also planned in the capital city Kyoto at a Buddhist temple. A befitting location for the Live Earth concert event since Kyoto is the namesake of the landmark environmental treaty. From the brilliant composer of "The Last Emperor" soundtrack, Ryuichi Sakamoto, who also wrote the score for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in Kyoto to California-based Linkin Park and Barbados-born R&B artist Rihanna in Tokyo, UPop and WorldSpace satellite radio will play host to global coverage of the Live Earth events including an exclusive interview with J-Pop Superstar Kumi Koda. (The full interview will be available on this blog very soon). I also expect great shows by other longtime UPOP favs like Rize and Yellow Magic Orchestra. Here’s the trick to Live Earth…the superstars are the draw...but the big surprises will come in the performances by many of the lesser known international acts. Many of the European and Asian superstars performing in Germany, Japan, the U.S. and U.K. were first debuted on WorldSpace Channels. Check out the full list of Live Earth performers in an earlier blog...see how many you have heard. If you have any questions about any of the artists please feel free to email me at tkelly@worldspace.com " -Ted Kelly / UPOP 29 Check back with us again tomorrw as we continue to countdown to Live Earth 2007. Angelique Kidjo, Baaba Maal, Danny K, Joss Stone, The Parlotones, The Soweto Gospel Choir, UB40, Vusi Mahlasela, Zola Live Earth South Africa will be held at Maropeng, the visitor center to the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site. Tickets can be purchased through Computicket on their website, by phone at 083 915 8000, or at any Computicket outlet in South Africa. Tickets will cost you R250, including all service fees. Scotty Why is our guest blogger today. Scotty is the Program Director for WorldSpace channel WORLDZONE 100. He is our World Music expert and he will tell us more about what we can expect from the performers in South Africa.
"WorldZone 100 is pretty excited about the line-up in South Africa for Live Earth 2007. A lot of longtime friends of WorldZone are on the bill. We've seen many of these performers before and we know they won't disappoint. Angelique Kidjo is a true pro. Her set is well-planned...tight...and always a total joy. Her new CD "Djin Djin" is a great cross between her African roots and Western influences. There are tons of superstar guests on the cd which lead us to wonder if any of them will surprise us with appearances during her show. One performer sure to jump up on stage with Kidjo is Joss Stone. The two of them do a great cover of the Rolling Stones "Gimme Shelter" on the new CD. Baaba Maal is easily one of the most exciting World Music performers touring today. Watching his show is like taking a little trip to his home in Senegal. Vusi Mahlasela is just fantastic live. He has a subtle strength that makes you stop, listen and think. Dave Matthews sites Mahlasela as a huge influence. Zola is an emerging African Hip Hop artist. His live show is energetic and he has some of the wildest dancers onstage. (WorldSpace saw a great show with Kidjo, Mahlasela and Zola together last year @ Celebrate Brooklyn...you can see the photo slide show of that performance by clicking the photo below). The Soweto Gospel Choir are amazing...UB40 are legends...Danny K is a radio favorite in South Africa and we played him a lot when I was at UPOP 29...The Parlotones are compared to The Beatles and Coldplay and have a huge following in South Africa. All of these acts have also been very vocal on environmental issues. You can be sure that each will present a special message of support to the Live Earth cause during their shows" - Scotty Why / WORLDZONE 100 That's all for today. TODAY'S WORLDSPACE DAILY GREEN 06/10/07: 26 days to Live EarthThis is THE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER and our LIVE EARTH 2007 COUNTDOWN continues. I'm hearing rumors that the South Africa lineup will be announced today and the advances on it look really strong. I hope to get that to you later soon. This week we will dig deeper and learn more about the Live Earth concerts in Japan, Germany and Australia. It will be a great chance for those of you not as familar with some of those artists to learn more about them. Make sure you check back everyday.
TODAY'S WORLDSPACE DAILY GREEN 06/09/07: 27 days to Live EarthThe WorldSpace Blogger here again. Today I wanted to focus on what is probably the most important part of Live Earth 2007...THE MESSAGE. The organizers are saying "Live Earth will use the global reach of music to engage people on a mass scale to combat our climate crisis, bringing together more than 150 of the world's top musicians for 24 hours of music from 9 concerts across all 7 continents." In essence, the music will be the link...but spreading the world about protecting our planet...that's what's important. The Live Earth Homepage has regulalry updating tips on how to live your life a little more "green". The SOS Homepage also has a neat "Daily Green" segment. Some great blogs like TreeHugger Blog and Daily Green Blog are also filled with useful information. Most of these messages are about surprisingly easy changes you can make to your day-to-day life that will have a long-lasting effect on the environment. We will continue to search for more useful websites and blogs and add them to our LINK LIST. If you know of any good resources, feel free to tell us all about them in the GUESTBOOK or by adding a comment below. Also below we hope you will be able to find some useful tips by listening to the WORLDSPACE DAILY GREEN.

But I'm really excited about all of the host-nation acts that we've been following for years and that are finally getting a shot at the international spotlight. Performers like Sasha in Germany, Kumi Koda and Rize in Japan, Eskimo Joe in Australia...these are great acts that you may not yet know much about. If you do a little advance recon before the event...organize yourself properly...and use all the tools avaliable online...you'll be able sit at your computer or your radio and hear a ton of great performances from both bands you already know and love, and bands you will come to love for years to come. Next time will look a little closer at the message behind LIVE EARTH. Until then, please feel free to sign our GUESTBOOK or leave a comment below.

TODAY'S WORLDSPACE DAILY GREEN 06/07/07: Countdown to Live Earth 2007 begins!Hello. I am THE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER and I welcome you to our LIVE EARTH 2007 countdown. Live Earth is exactly 30 days from today! I'm incredibly excited because WORLDSPACE SATELLITE RADIO is broadcasting this great event to the entire planet. For those who don't know, Live Earth 2007 is a 24-hour concert series held on all seven continents on July 7th 2007. Headliners include Madonna, Smashing Pumpkins, The Police, Melissa Etheridge, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer and many more. They will perform in the US, the UK, China, Brazil, Australia, Japan and South Africa. The goal of this worldwide music event is to focus on the dangers of global warming and other "Green" issues. WorldSpace will be covering the event live both onair and online. Check back to this blog everyday. I'll keep you up with the latest news about the concerts...I'll share information and rumors I find on other blog sites...I'll share ideas on how you can help the Live Earth mission by living a more Earth-friendly life. This blog will also be very interactive. We invite anyone to jump in our GUESTBOOK to share information about their own Live Earth thoughts and experiences...or maybe to tell us about what's happening on your Live Earth Blog...or maybe just to say "hey". I'll be back tomorrow to go over the Live Earth lineups (as we know them so far). Stop back again! In the meantime, check out more info at worldspaceondemand.com. Later,
THE WORLDSPACE BLOGGER
